About Half-Frame
The Half-Frame Resurgence
Half-frame cameras are experiencing a wonderful comeback. By capturing two images in the space of a single 35mm frame, they offer a unique vertical format and double the shots per roll, making them both creatively interesting and budget-friendly. While new models like the Pentax 17 can be pricey for those of us without a big budget, the market for classic, affordable half-frame cameras from the past is thriving. This tool was inspired by that spirit of accessibility.
The PhotoLab35 Half-Frame tool lets you bring that distinct aesthetic to any of your existing photos. Simply upload an image, and the tool simulates the half-frame crop. Best of all, you have full creative control, with a function to frame the perfect slice of your photo—be it from the left, center, or right. I hope you enjoy using it!
How to Use the Half-Frame Tool
- Select an Image: Click the button to upload a photo from your device. A preview of your original image will appear on the right.
- Choose Camera & Film: Use the dropdown menus to select a virtual "Camera" and "Film" stock. These will apply different grain and color profiles to your image, simulating a classic film look.
- Select Your Framing: In the "Framing" dropdown, choose whether you want to use the "Left," "Center," or "Right" portion of your original photo for the half-frame effect.
- Take the Shot: Click the "Take the Shot" button. This will apply all your selected effects and show the final half-frame image in the preview area.
- Develop Your Image: When you are happy with the result, click the "Develop" button to download your new image as a JPG file.
